This tutorial was written for PSP8. I have included lots of instructions
and screen shots with
the hope that anyone can do this tutorial. I have most of my favorite
effects on a tool bar but
have included the path to each effect so it will be easy to find them
if you are new to PSP.
If you are more advanced, just do your own thing, lol!
I hope you
enjoy doing this tutorial and if you have a question or comment
you
can write me here .. ginny_hopping at yahoo dot com
~ You will need
~
Paint Shop Pro 8, a 30 day trial program can be downloaded here.
My Gerbera and Freesia tube here.
Open this tube in PSP.
I do not know the name of the talented artist who created this wonderful floral illustration so
I cannot give proper credit for the artwork. If you know the name of the artist I would
appreciate
it if you would write me. ginny hopping at comcast dot net. Thanks!
Toadies Filter/Turn Your Inside Outside here.
** This filter will create a folder named Distort in your
plugins
listing, so look for it under that name .**
Let's get started.
Open a new canvas
500 x 500, Raster Background, 16 Million Colors, color #C5CE9E.
Go to Effects/Texture Effects/Weave. Settings are
Gap Size 1 ~ Width 1 ~ Opacity 24 ~ Weave Color Black ~ Gap Color #C5CE9E
~ Fill Gaps unchecked.
Click on your Gerbera and Daisy tube and go to Edit/Copy. You can close
your tube now.
On your new canvas, go to Edit/Paste/Paste as a New Layer.
In your Layer Palette, right click on Raster 1 and chose Duplicate OR
you can use the icon in your Layer palette to do this step.
In your Layer Palette, turn off "Copy of Raster 1" and click
on Raster 1.
Go to Effects/Plugins/Distort/Turn Your Inside Outside ~ Tightness
150.
You will notice some of the flower at the corners so
using your Selection tool with these settings ....

Make a circular selection around the center swirl.

Go to Selections/Invert then Edit/Cut. Go to Selections/Invert then
Selections Float.
Go to Adjust/Softness/Soft focus and use these settings ...
Focus
|
Halo
|
| Softness % 50 |
Amount 78 |
| Edge Importance 50 |
Halo Size 100 |
| "Check" Include
scattered light |
Halo Visibility 40 |
Go to Selections/Select none. In your Layer palette, lower the opacity
of this layer to 60.
You can turn on your flower tube layer now (Copy of Raster 1).
Using your Mover tool
move the flower tube to the right side
of the canvas and Raster 1 to the left.
Click on the Copy of Raster 1 layer and go to Effects/3D Effects/Drop
shadow.
Use these settings ....
Vertical and Horizontal 2, Opacity 38, Blur 5, Shadow color Black.
Now we are going to add the text. We are going to put the text on a
Vector line so it
curves with the background effect. It's not hard to do at all.
Go to Layers/New Vector Layer. Click on your Pen tool
and use these settings ..

and in your Materials palette
make your foreground color #000000 and your background color should
be off.
With your Pen tool click on your canvas once by the yellow gerbera and
then again near the
stems. When you make that last "click" drag your mouse a little
and you will get a control arm.
Use that arrow on the control arm to bow your line out towards the left,
see the screen shot ...

Now click on your Text tool
with these settings .. (font is Harrington)
In your Materials palette make your foreground color #C5CE9E and your
background color #7C9165. Using your Text tool, move up mouse up to
the line near the
middle. Click on the line when you see this icon.
The
Text Entry box will open, type your
name or whatever you want on your tag. Click Apply. Now go to your Layer
palette and click
on the plus sign on Vector 1.
This will open the sub layers. There will be a layer that has your
text and a layer with the vector line. Turn off the vector line.

Now right click on Vector 1 and choose "Convert to Raster Layer".
Using your Selection tool
same settings as before, except change the
Selection type: to Rectangle, make a selection around your text and
then click
on your text. Your text will be selected now.
Go to Selections/Modify/Contract.
Number of Pixels is 2.
Go to Effects/3D Effects/Inner Bevel and use these settings ...
Bevel 1, Width 1, Smoothness 31, Depth 1, Ambience 0, Shininess 56,
Color ~ White, Angle 315, Intensity 39, Elevation 36.
Go to Selections/Select none.
Now lets add a drop shadow.
Go to Effects/3D Effects/Drop Shadow and use these settings ...
Vertical and Horizontal 2, Opacity 50, Blur 4 and Color ~ Black.
Here is what you should have so far ...

Now I like the new picture frames in PSP8 and use them a lot for tags.
Go to Image/Picture Frame.
You can see what frames are available by clicking on the preview window
and scroll
through the menu. I used Edge Brush 02, but choose any one you like.
Check "Frame inside of the image" and click OK.
Go to Layers/Merge/Merge Visible. Add your signature and you are done.
You may want to resize your image.
I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial and would appreciate it if you
would take a
minute and sign my guestbook located on the tutorial index page.
